The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

As any significant awards ceremony draws close, you'll find an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the hearts of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game was excluded that year
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
  • Just some logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
